This method has been available for use in the US since the beginning of 2001. One pill is given by mouth. The patient inserts 4 tablets of Misoprostol into the vagina at home 2-3 days later, although contractions may start sooner. A routine follow up exam with ultrasound is performed 2 weeks later.

The fee is $380. The fee includes a surgical procedure if all the uterine contents have not been successfully passed. This procedure is done until the 56th day of pregnancy (estimated by first day of last menstrual period).
